Incourage office closed 6/20 to recognize Juneteenth

I would like to thank the Board of Directors for recognizing Juneteenth as an Incourage holiday to commemorate the importance of this historic day.

It was on June 19, 1865 where 2000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, TX and informed 250,000 enslaved African Americans that President Abraham Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation granting them their freedom from legal enslavement.      

I can’t imagine the elation they felt at that time, but also recognize the difficult road that lay ahead for many to have that freedom recognized in their own lives. The work continues on to this day to ensure people of all ethnic and racial backgrounds continue to be free. Incourage values all of our community members and we recognize the importance of not only this day, but each unique individual who calls this place home.
