Tribune Building Project Update

Phase 2 Programming Document is now available
Completed February 4 and uploaded to TribuneBuilding.org, the Phase 2 Programming Document and Design Update is now available for viewing and sharing. This 12-page document summarizes work completed in Phase 2. Of particular interest are the design narrative and floor plan updates. These two sections help bring to life residents’ decisions for the building, articulating in greater detail how each programming space within the building will work well with the others. Join us on March 10!
At the interactive kick-off meeting to the Tribune Building Project’s next phase on January 27, participants learned from others and shared personal interests and experience in a number of areas including: cafe/brewpub, microbrewery, culinary kitchen, recreation, youth, creative workshop, arts, and more. Join us on March 10, 5:30-7:30pm at Centralia Center as the conversation continues.

Development Agreement
On January 20, the City of Wisconsin Rapids entered into a development agreement with Community Property, Inc., a supporting organization of Incourage, regarding the downtown development of the area known as Market Square. Good news – the Project now has parking! We sincerely appreciate the City’s continued collaboration on projects and initiatives, like these, that are in the best interest of residents.

Our residents are making a difference!
In a special blog series, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is recognizing four foundations who are working on projects that help address their community’s information needs. In their latest blog, In Wisconsin, a vacant newspaper building takes new life, the Tribune Building Project and residents’ engagement in this process are featured.

Renewable energy in central Wisconsin
Incourage’s Business Education Partnership received a grant from Constellation Energy to support renewable energy education in five central Wisconsin public and private school systems. Read more about the grant and the Business Education Partnership’s efforts here.

Resident Profile – Jamie Jestadt

Wisconsin Rapids resident Jamie Jestadt, found a deeper connection to her community through involvement in the Tribune Building Project. She first learned of the Project through Kristie Rauter of the Wood County Health Department when the two were working on the Get Active Campaign. This former Auburndale School District Physical Education teacher, turned stay-at-home mom has funneled her passion for physical fitness, health and youth activities into action.

“I love the diversity {present in this process}. There are so many people I haven’t seen before in the community. People sat in different spots to engage, and would separate intentionally.” Self described as shy, Jamie “loved that the project challenged me to go outside my comfort zone.”

Having missed only one meeting throughout the process, Jamie shared that she learned as much as she’s shared. In particular, she learned what it means to be more environmentally conscious in building, and was exposed to some local resources that she was not aware of before.

Maybe most valuable for Jamie, was seeing her contributions in the design renderings. “Incourage is doing what you promised… Letting residents design.” Further adding, “A larger benefit is a sense of ownership of your place. I will utilize it more, because I’ve been involved.”

Jamie just recently volunteered to host a table at the next meeting on March 10, and to help design work to further engage youth in the process. In the meantime, she and her husband Kuba will continue to enjoy raising their two children in a community they love. One of her greatest hopes is that young families utilize all the amazing opportunities that south Wood County area have to offer.
