Call For Artists
$300K Funding Opportunity with Request for Qualifications Due January 26
Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc. – January 7, 2015 – Incourage (incouragecf.org), a nationally recognized leader in place-based philanthropy and community change efforts, has announced an open competition for up to $300,000 in art installations. This opportunity, located in rural central Wisconsin, is supported by an ArtPlace America Creative Placemaking grant that Incourage received for the Tribune Building Project. Selected artists will create permanent installations, integral to the iconic landmark’s rebirth, and telling of the community’s story.
The Tribune Building Project (TribuneBuilding.org) began when Incourage purchased the 20,000 square foot, centrally located property with the intent that residents would decide its future use. Over the past 15 months, more than 700 residents have invested thousands of hours in that process. When open, the property will include a number of local entrepreneurial operations including a culinary kitchen, microbrewery, café, creative workshop, and recreational rentals.
“The last decade has been significantly hard on our community, with many residents personally affected by what we’ve now come to realize is a fundamental restructuring of our local economy. But in reimagining the Tribune Building’s future, residents by extension are shaping the future of a new economy,” explained Kelly Ryan, president and CEO, Incourage. “This project has ignited tremendous positive energy among our neighbors, both near and far. The Tribune Building has become a beacon of hope for us all.”
Throughout the process of determining the Tribune Building’s future use, residents repeatedly looked for opportunities to invite art of varying forms into the design. This competition honors those desires by welcoming artists who work in any number of mediums including landscape, mural, graphic design, 2-D, 3-D, and more.
“This is a rare and unique opportunity for artists to contribute their talent in a lasting way,” shared Steven Bingler, principal and founder of Concordia, Incourage’s project partner. “We believe art that is able to convey the community’s story will be well supported by the residents who’ve participated in this process. They were excited by the renderings we recently revealed that illustrated their vision for the space.”
